PLAYMODES presents ESPECTRES
Espectres is a piece of generative video art. Driven by chance and probability, this audiovisual automaton creates infinite spectrograms, in constant change, which are immediately transformed into electronic sound through image sonification algorithms and additive synthesis. It allows, literally, to hear exactly what is seen, using the pixels as a source of sound generation. As an autonomous and unsupervised creative agent, Espectres has its own musical taste. From “drone” environments to intense rhythms or abstract microtonal landscapes, this algorithmic being fluctuates between unique and unexpected audiovisual states.
Playmodes is an audiovisual research workshop. Led since 2006 by Eloi Maduell and Santi Vilanova, it is a space of convergence between art and science, philosophy, music and technological research. Their works, which range from light sculptures to kinetic instruments and celestial projections, transport the viewer to an abstract universe where code transmutes into immersive experiences. With an approach that merges space, sound, image and movement, each project proposes new forms of interaction with the viewer. Their practice, rooted in creative programming and open source, has been internationally recognized. Their installations have been exhibited around the world, from Shanghai to New York, and have gained recognition in both the artistic and design fields. Their pieces are part of collections of institutions and collectors around the world, which has consolidated their position as a reference in the intersection between art and technology.
